Title: Celebrating Growth: God's Faithfulness Through the Years
Scripture Reading: Ephesians 4: 11-16
Dear congregants,
We
are gathered here today to celebrate the anniversary of our beloved
church, a sacred space born out of obedience to Christ's command, built
by the labor of our forebears and sustained by God’s unyielding mercy
and favor.
The apostle Paul, in Ephesians Chapter 4, talks about
the role of the body of Christ. He highlights unity, diversity, and
growth as defining features of the church, and as we reflect on our
journey thus far, it's evident how our cherished community embodies
these characteristics.
As we celebrate today, let us remain
mindful of our beginnings. Remember, we started as a small group of
believers, united under the banner of Christ's love, to serve humanity
and spread the Gospel. The faith shown by our founding members was a
seed planted, and now, as we look around at the diversity and strength
of our congregation, we can see the harvest of that faith.
We
have seen unity during challenging times. When trials came, we stood
together, strengthened by the Word and the power of shared prayer. Paul
reminds us in Ephesians 4:13, “Till we all come in the unity of the
faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto
the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ."
More, we
have observed diversity within our congregation. We come from different
walks of life, yet we are unified by our common love for the Lord. Our
different talents, gifts, and strengths are all used for the greater
good, just as Paul described that Christ “gave some, apostles; and some,
prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers." Each
of us has a role to play in nurturing the body of Christ, in
contributing to the growth of this church.
Finally, growth. Over
the years, we have grown not only in numbers but also in spirituality,
faith, and love for each other. Indeed, our church's growth is a
testament to God's faithfulness. In Ephesians 4: 15, Paul speaks of
growth, “But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all
things, which is the head, even Christ."
As we mark another year
of our church's history, let our celebration not only look backward to
the blessings we've already experienced but also forward in anticipation
of what God still has in store for us. As we move forward, let's do so
with the understanding that we are called to grow together, in unity and
diversity, to continue the mission that God has given us.
This
anniversary, let us give thanks for God’s faithfulness and ask Him to
continue guiding us, as we contribute to the growth of His church in
love and unity.
We thank Him for His love that has been poured
out among us, for His mercy that has never failed, and for His provision
that has sustained us.
May we continue to be a beacon of Christ's love and light to all those around us.
In His Holy name, we pray.
Amen.
